Dane Westby made our news section last week by announcing he would be pedaling his bicycle from his home in Oklahoma all the way to Daytona to catch the Daytona 200 as a spectator. An incredible display of physical fitness, Westby successfully completed his pedal ride to Daytona, and as a reward, the American SportBike Racing Association (ASRA), this year’s sanctioning body for the Daytona 200, asked Westby if he would like to drive the official pace car for this year’s race. Naturally, Dane said yes.
“I’ve raced in five Daytona 200s and done my share of running at the front,” said Dane. “But, this is the first time I’ll be in a car. It’s a special honor, and I’m really thankful that the good folks at the ASRA asked me to drive the Daytona 200 Official Pace Car. Since I won’t be competing in this year’s race, this is a unique opportunity for me to participate in the event.”
Westby will compete in the 2015 MotoAmerica Series beginning at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, TX, on April 10, 11, and 12. Dane Westby will race his #00 Yamaha YZF-R1 in 1000 Superstock and with additional sponsorship by Broaster Chicken.
