Suzuki Reveals 30th Anniversary GSX-R Livery

Suzuki revealed a new special edition livery for the GSX-R1000 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Gixxer. The limited edition paint scheme is a throwback to the colors of the original 1985 GSX-R750 that first established the brand’s legacy.

The animated gif below illustrates the similarities between the original GSX-R750 and the anniversary-edition GSX-R1000. Suzuki says the special edition livery will be available soon in dealerships worldwide, though no specific timelines or prices were announced as yet.

The 30th anniversary color scheme was revealed as Sachsenring, the site of this weekend’s MotoGP round. Suzuki factory racers Aleix Esparagaro and Maverick Vinales will ride a GSX-RR prototype dressed in the same livery while sporting colors designed to resemble Kevin Schwantz‘s leathers in the 1980s. Schwantz first rode the GSX-R750 at the 1985 Suzuka 8-Hour endurance race with Graeme Crosby and later rode Gixxers to victory at the Daytona 200 and the 1993 500cc World Championship on the RGV500.

“I’ve been involved with Suzuki and raced Suzukis my entire career and to have seen the GSX-R evolve,” says Schwantz. “I like to think that some of the Grand Prix racing I did helped with some development of the GSX-R; maybe some of the technology they learned from GP racing is stuff that has evolved and gone into the production GSX-R motorcycles. Whether it’s a 600, 750, 1000, or all the other different sizes that they have made, they’re all just as much fun to ride.”
