KTM is recalling the 2014 1290 Super Duke R because of a potential fuel leak. As of this writing, recalls have been announced in Canada and Australia, and we expect a similar recall for the U.S. to be announced shortly by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to Transport Canada, the threaded inserts that attach the internal overflow pipe to the fuel tank may leak fuel due to an irregularity in the coating process. The Australia Competition & Consumer Commission adds the internal overflow pipe may not be completely enclosed in plastic. Leaking fuel poses a fire risk as it may go up if in the presence of an ignition source.
KTM dealers will inspect affected models and make the necessary repairs. We will provide an update if/when NHTSA announces a similar recall for the U.S. market.
